VINERY Stud resident Mossman is shooting for a global Group 1 double this Saturday with high profile sons Buffering and Royal Zulu Warrior lining up in feature races.

In South Africa, Australia-bred galloper Royal Zulu Warrior will take part in the coveted Group 1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m).

A four time winner of seven races including the Lebelo Sprint, Gr.3, the six-year-old Mossman gelding has drawn barrier two in the R750,000 feature.

Only lightly raced, Royal Zulu Warrior was raised from a merit rating of 97 to 105 after his last start fifth placing in the Computaform Sprint Gr.1 over 1000m at Turffontein ensuring his place in the rich Golden Horse field.

Trainer Kumaran Naidoo said that Royal Zulu Warrior was doing well ahead of his second tilt at Gr.1 company.

A win in the Scottsville feature would deliver an enormous boost to Lot 26 at next week’s annual Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.

The colt is a Mossman three-quarter-brother to Royal Zulu Warrior and a close relation to Fighting Warrior, a Scone-bred winner of the Group 1 Golden Horseshoe in the rainbow republic.

Meanwhile, Queensland’s favourite son Buffering has conditions tailor-made in what promises to be a wet track for the running of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) in Brisbane.

The Robert Heathcote trained 5YO has famously placed in 7 Group 1 races – four of them a runner-up, one by a nose in the VRC Newmarket Handicap (1200m) behind Hay List.
