EXCITES gelding Flag Officer’s brave effort in yesterday’s Listed WATC Challenge Stakes (1500m) at Ascot didn’t go unrewarded with the 3YO earning his first black type stripe.
The Paul Jordan trained gelding had company throughout on the pace in the Perth feature digging deep when required to finish third, just 0.9-lens from the winner Full Reign.
Flag Officer’s Challenge highlight comes immediately after the local finished runner-up behind Samaready’s half sister Night War in the rich Perth Magic Millions 3YO Classic (1400m) a week earlier.
The chestnut is building an enviable record with 2 wins and 5 placings from his 8 career starts.
Meanwhile back in Sydney, Excites’ owner/breeders Peter and Wendy Moran were celebrating after the lightly-raced filly Potluck scored an easy win at Canterbury under lights at only her second race start.
Potluck was handily position just off the speed but quickly put the issue beyond doubt once asked, surging clear to record an emphatic 1.5-lens win.
