Champion filly Turbulent Descent completed a weekend to remember for Vinery shuttler Congrats.
Appearing for the first time this year, Turbulent Descent overhauled pacesetter Izzy Rules to score a convincing victory in the LR Desert Stormer Hcp (1200m) at Hollywood Park on Sunday.
Turbulent Descent (4f Congrats – Roger’s Sue by Forestry) was making her first start since last December and the first-up victory improved her record to 7 wins in 11 starts for over $900,000 in prizemoney.
“She’s a brilliant filly and David (Flores) got her settled for a perfect trip,” trainer Mike Puype said. “Her campaign in 2011 took its toll with four travel trips so it’s good to see her back in form.”
Turbulent Descent is from Congrats first crop and is a G1 winner of the Hollywood Starlet, Santa Anita Oaks and Saratoga Test Stakes but finished last year with unplaced runs in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Churchill Downs after a murderous trip and the G1 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita on New Year’s Eve.
Turbulent Descent will now be set for the G2 A Gleam Hcp (1400m) back at Hollywood Park in July.
Vinery shuttler Congrats sired his 100th individual winner when Sibonet scored at Woodbine on Saturday. Threehifives made 101 in a Calder maiden on Sunday.
Congrats (A P Indy) returns to Vinery for his second southern season at a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee in 2012.
