TRIPLE Crown co-founder Chris Ward believes 2014 Inglis Classic heroine Peggy Jean has the potential to outshine their previous winners Miss Independent and Calvary Rose.

The daughter of Vinery Stud resident sire Myboycharlie finished too well for hot favourite Boomwaa in the $250,000 while having only her second career start.

“The Inglis Classic race, especially the first couple that cross the line each year tend to go on to bigger and better things and she certainly will,” Ward said. “She’s got a lot of talent there and once she gets over the 1400m and 1600m you might see her going even better.”

Peggy Jean’s Inglis Classic win helped catapult her earnings to upwards of $180,000 or more than four times her original purchase price of $46,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She is not only Triple Crown’s third Inglis Classic winner, she is also their second major winner by Myboycharlie.

The Ward’s also bought and syndicated Charlie Boy who was the stallion’s first runner and winner anywhere in the world and better still, won them the VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) Gr.2 last spring.

“We identified Myboycharlie early as a stallion that could work well here in Australia,” Chris Ward explained, “being through Danehill line he was a very precocious and good early runner himself and also his dam-line has had success out here in Australia as well.”

Triple Crown picked up another Myboycharlie at this week’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney paying $52,000 for Lot 144.

The bay colt is a maternal grandson of Danehill mare Smarts whose only two starts saw her finished second in the Group 2 STC Reisling Slipper Trial and third in the Group 3 AJC Kindergarten Stakes.

Myboycharlie has a triumphant Classic sale with highlights including a $105,000 colt sold to Robbie Griffiths and a $100,000 colt knocked down to Ron Quinton.

“Myboycharlie does throw a nice type and this colt is no exception,” Quinton said.

“He is a very nice individual and a quality type with a lovely loose walk.”

“He’s out of a Centaine mare and they have been very good Broodmares and the sire Myboycharlie produced Peggy Jean, the winner of the Inglis Classic  at Royal Randwick on the 18th of January 2014. I think he’s a very exciting prospect to syndicate.”
