MYBOYCHARLIE three-year-old Charlestown shapes as the horse to beat in Saturday’s Listed Southland Guineas (1600m) at Ascot Park in New Zealand.

The Lisa Latta trained gelding has been in sparkling form ahead of his weekend assignment winning at Trentham on Jan 18 before his last start third in the Listed Southern Wide Guineas at Wingatui.

Charlestown has been a talented horse from the outset with his early efforts including a second placing in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1200m) at only his fourth raceday appearance.

Charlestown is out of a More Than Ready mare as are Group 1 winners Miracles Of Life, Atlante and Rebel Dane as well as Testa Rossa’s 2014 Magic Millions winner, Unencumbered.

Former Champion 2YO Myboycharlie has made a brilliant start to 2014 highlighted by Stakes winning two-year-old Peggy Jean who ran down Lightning Stakes contender Boomwaa to win the $250,000 ATC Inglis Classic (1200m) at Randwick last month.
