Vinery shuttler Congrats narrowly missed a 2yo treble with some stellar debuts from his first Kentucky crop of two year-olds in North America.
His promising filly Temper Mint Patty powered home at Saratoga on Friday and Call To Congrats broke through at Del Mar on Saturday. Meanwhile Congrats when debutant Congrats to Ken went down by a neck at Saratoga on Saturday.
TEMPER MINT PATTY (2f Congrats – His Beauty by Adcat) scored by a neck on debut from My Super Nova at the Spa on Friday. They streeted the rest of the field by more than 8 lengths.
Her dam His Beauty was a Listed winner of the Jena Jena Stakes at Belmont and she cost owner Mark Stanley $95,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO Sale in March.
Trainer Dale Romans has several black-type options for Temper Mint Patty including a quick back-up in the Lady Fingers Stakes on September 6 or the New York Breeders’ Futurity on October 4.
Congrats has been represented by 8 juvenile winners this year among them have been Lamontagne and Magnificent Margo who were also successful at Saratoga in August.
Well bred CALL TO CONGRATS (2f Congrats – Letgomyecho by Menifee) was second on debut over this track and trip Aug. 2. The 3-1 second favourite settled well back but steadily moved up between horses to sit in fourth rounding the home bend. Once in the straight she cruised up to leader Megyns Gold (Zensational) in the final furlong and kicked away to win by 2 1/4 lengths with the promise of more to come.
The Kentucky bred filly had been in the spotlight at the Fasig-Tipton Maryland 2YO Sale in May when making $300,000 to the bid of Curtis & Priscilla Tamkin. Her dam Letgomyecho won the G2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Congrats (A P Indy) has joined Vinery champion More Than Ready in the Top 10 on the North American 2YO sires’ premiership with earnings of $457,000. Vinery will stand him for a $22,000 (inc gst) fee this year.
