DENISE Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds, Gai Waterhouse, Matthew Smith and leading Queensland trainer Liam Birchley were among those who secured a Big Brown yearling at the 2014 Magic Millions sale on the Gold Coast earlier this month.
The progeny of the Kentucky Derby/Preakness Stakes hero sold for highs of $180,000 with five of his lots making over $100,000 (18 of 19 sold, ave $72k)
Top price among Big Brown’s 18-lots that changed hands on the Coast was Lot 634 from Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud.
The chestnut filly is a half-sister to four stakes-performers including Golden Slipper winner Polar Success whose own progeny boast the stakes-placed Polaway and Lockroy as well as the exciting More Than Ready colt Polarmore.
Big Brown’s Australian bred progeny will be spread far and wide around the nation with buyers from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South and Western Australia underlining his popularity.
