TODAY’S VRC Maribyrnong Plate Trial (1000m) was a multiple triumph for Vinery Stud given that their flagship sire More Than Ready not only produced the winner, associate stallion Testa Rossa was to the fore via one of his daughters, Speedy Rossa, who delivered the third placed Lil Red Corvette.

Testa Rossa, who won the 1998 VRC Maribrynong Plate (final) by an easy 2.8-lens, boast some tremendously portentous figures despite being a novice in terms of a broodmare sire with 10 winners and 4 placegetters from 19 starters.

Lil Red Corvette is a daughter of Henny Hughes raced by Contract Racing whose familiar colours were worn to victory in the 2010 Golden Slipper by the ill-fated Crystal Lily.

“Testa Rossa has had less than 20 runners as a broodmare sire so far but is returning some very encouraging statistics to say that he will develop into a very good one,” says Vinery Stud’s Conor Phelan.

“I think that’s because he throws good bone, muscle and a high degree of toughness in to his own progeny and obviously he is passing that on through his daughters. His sire is from the Rough Shod family, it’s full of champion sires and broodmare sires and of course his own dam-sire (Sir Dapper) is by Vain who has few equals in the broodmare sire stakes.”
