EXCITES gelding Black Jag recorded his first Saturday metro win at Canterbury on Saturday but not before some anxious moments for rider Blake Shinn.
The race got off to a dramatic beginning with Druid’s jockey Yusuke Ichikawa being dislodged metre after the start.
Druid ran along regardless and sat outside Black Jag for the rest of the 1550m race keeping Shinn on his toes throughout.
Despite the obvious inconvenience, Shinn and Black Jag were able to triumph fighting off a concerted challenge from the runner-up, Fortunefivehundred, to collect the prize.
Black Jag is one of Excites first crop alongside Stakes Winner’s Scream Machine and Flag Officer and has now won 5 races with 13 placings with earnings of over $220,000.
