EXCITES gelding Black Jag celebrated his 50th career start with a 6-lens win in the ATC McGrath Estate Agents Bm90 Handicap over Randwick’s famous mile on Saturday.
Black Jag won on debut as a 2yo in January 2011 before heading into Listed and Gr.1 company at his next 4 juvenile starts. A tough 2yo, the now 5yo has excelled this season with four Metropolitan wins since December and looks set to be a feature for many seasons to come.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding took up his customary roll as pacemaker and was never serious challenged at any stage, streaking away up the rise to post a comprehensive win.
It was a case of back-to-back triumphs for the handsome gelding who was dropping back in distance from a hard fought win over 2200m during the last month’s Scone standalone.
Saturday’s victory takes Black Jag’s record to 8 wins and 15 placings with career earnings closing in on $400,000 or nearly four times what he cost as a yearling.
Black Jag’s weekend cakewalk comes 7-days after another first crop Excites son, Scream Machine, cleaned up his rivals at Rosehill not long after his scorching and somewhat unlucky performance in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane.
