BUYERS have responded well to the first Australian-bred foals by Vinery Stud superstar Big Brown with his weanlings ‘selling out’ at the Magic Millions National Sale this week.
The Kentucky Derby/Preakness Stakes hero was represented by six weanlings at the sale; all of which were subject to strong competition not only from Australia but New Zealand as well.
Lot 685 from Vinery Stud (as agent) sold for $80,000 to Springbank Horse Farm (VIC).
The colt is a half brother to Benicio stakesplacegetter Cuban Sunday and a trio of other winners.
Three of the half dozen Big Brown weanlings were claimed by Victorian interests with visiting agent Gary Mudgway paying $60,000 for a close relation to Triple Crown winner, Dance Hero.
Mudgway revealed that he plans to re-offer the filly at one of Australia’s major yearling sale in 2013 where she is bound to attract significant attention.
“We’ve had tremendous success pinhooking fillies going into the Melbourne Premier Sale and this filly was purchased to be one of our star lots at next year’s sale,” he said.
