CHAMPION racehorse Big Brown’s portentous start to his stud career hasn’t been lost on buyers around the world let alone those who attended the Keeneland September Yearling Sale just down the road from the horse’s unforgettable Kentucky Derby win.
Twenty six of the 31 Big Brown sons and daughters found new homes at an average cost of $82,769.
Big brown has made a willing start to career as a stallion with 6 individual winners led by stakeswinner and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile hopeful, Brown Almighty.
Progeny of Big Brown have sold especially well as weanling, yearlings and 2YO’s – indeed, one of his juveniles sold for US$1.3 million at the Fasig-Tipton Horses in Training Sale in Florida in March.
His 2012 service fee in the USA was $35,000 whilst Big Brown’s first Australian bred crop will hit the yearlings sales in 2013.
