BIG Brown two-year-old Brown Almighty has emerged as one of the front runners in the countdown to November’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
A flashy chestnut colt with distinct white markings, Brown Almighty became his sire’s first stakeswinner when he led throughout to claim the Louisiana Sunny’s Halo Stakes on August 4 and remain undefeated in both starts to date.
In addition to Brown Almighty, Big Brown is likely to have two representatives, Archer Hill and One Foxy Grey in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine which is a “Win and your In” Breeders’ Cup lead up race.
Big Brown’s portentous beginning to his stud career has seen the value of his progeny soar in sale rings across the nation.
“Although Big Brown’s sales averages were clearly affected by the depressed auction market, the reviews on the quality of his offspring remained positive, even as they went into early training,” reports Anne Peters of the Daily Racing Form.
Throughout the spring this year, Browns 2-year-olds grabbed headlines at the sales.
“His yearlings last year averaged over $82,000, but this years juveniles moved up to an average of over $130,000, including the $1.3 million colt out of Cool Ghoul at the Fasig-Tipton February sale.”
The next opportunity for buyers to tap into Big Brown’s success comes at the prestigious Keeneland September Yearling Sale where the former Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes will have a total of 34 youngsters on offer.
