BIG Brown’s chances of becoming a first season Breeders’ Cup sire rest with talented two-year-old Brown Almighty who is hoping to ‘do a Pluck’ and win next month’s BC Juvenile at Santa Anita.
Big Brown has made a fabulous start to his freshman year with 9 individual winners and 5 placegetters led by the aforementioned Sunny’s Halo Stakes winner, Brown Almighty.
“Big Brown is doing a tremendous job over there in the States. Brown Almighty is clearly a headline horse for him but there are others including the unbeaten Darwin,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
Darwin is the colt whom Coolmore (Demi O’Byrne) paid US$1.3 million for at the Horses in Training Sale in Florida back in February.
He looked the part winning his debut at Belmont Park in new York recently for Pluck’s ‘old’ trainer Todd Pletcher.
“Those vendors who are taking a first crop Big Brown to the Australian yearling sales in 2013 in Australia are going to be able to trade off his momentum in the USA not only in the sale ring but on the racetrack,” Phelan said.
“Unfortunately due to a slight mishap, he didn’t shuttle this season but we can’t wait for him to return to Scone in 2013 by which time his oldest US progeny will be three-year-olds and we know what an unbelievable horse Big Brown was himself at three.
“There is just so much to look forward to.”
