BENICIO gelding Benzaar enhaced his record at his home base after winning the ITC Blackwood’s Benchmark 60 Handicap (1200m) at Kembla Grange yesterday.
The Diane Poidevin-Laine trained 4YO broke his maiden at the south coast venue last month as a tearaway 4.5-lens winner.
Benzaar’s latest effort, while not as convincing in terms of of the margin, was nonetheless a portentious sign of what may lay ahead in coming outings.
Benzaar is the first foal of Xaar daughter Xaargal who is herself a half-sister to three winners of nine races.
Xaargal foaled a full sister to Benzaar in 2008.
Benicio is the sire of stakes performers from both crops to race including Benny’s Halo (Gr.2 placed in WA) and the emerging stayer Cuban Sunday trained for Vinery and others by Mick Price.
