Aussie Austin became the third winner for Vinery freshman Pluck (USA) in South Africa on Saturday.
The Mike Azzie trained colt scored a convincing victory second-up in the All To Come Juvenile Plate (1000m) at Turffontein. He started an odds-on favourite and, despite racing greenly in front, was untroubled to defeat Electric Lady by three lengths.
He had been beaten a nose by stablemate Rivarine on debut at Turffontein in January and looks another potential stakes winner for Azzie who trained Abashiri to win the G2 Gauteng Guineas on Saturday.
Aussie Austin follows Cogliere (Australia) and Gasoline (NZ) as Pluck’s first winners this season and the latter earned black-type when beaten a head and short-head in the LR Reid & Harrison Slipper at Matamata earlier on Saturday.
South African bloodstock agent Kerry Jack Bloodstock bought Aussie Austin for $30,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Sale. His dam Nufoos (Elusive Quality) is a daughter of Champion South African 3YO Filly Mythical Play.
Nufoos was a Ballarat winner for David Hayes and she was bred back to Pluck in October.
Pluck (More Than Ready) has five yearlings entered for the Adelaide Magic Millions on March 14 & 15 including the filly from Defiant (Lot 359). The Danehill mare foaled her seventh winner when Regal Rose broke through at Gawler last month.
