JUST seven days after his well-documented hard luck story Myboycharlie gelding Dowdstown Charlie gained a fitting reward with an easy win in yesterday’s ATC Sydney Markets Foundation Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill.
Bred by Ralph Johns, Dowdstown Charlie was on the quick back-up after finishing third at Randwick last Saturday when unable to get a clear crack at his rivals in the straight.
There was such scenario this time with jockey Jeff Lloyd giving the gelding plenty of space to unleash his trademark big finish before powering on for an impressive win.
Dowdstown Charlie is from Myboycharlie’s first Australian crop.
Trained at Rosehill by David Payne, Dowdstown Charlie has won over $180,000 so far with his notable performances including a third in the Listed ATC The Rosebud (1200m) and fifth in the Group 3 ATC UP and Coming Stakes (1300m) behind More Than Ready colt, War.
Dowdstown Charlie is the first foal of Danehill Dancer mare, Raindane, who traces back on a direct line to 1945 Melbourne Cup winner, Rainbird.
