Vinery sires All Too Hard and More Than Ready (USA) gave their yearlings a free-kick for the NZB Karaka Sale with Group victories during the summer carnival at Ellerslie.
All Too Hard colt Demonetization is one of the favourites for the NZ Derby Gr.1 in the wake of a convincing win against a field of classic hopefuls in the Auckland Guineas-Gr.2 on New Year’s Day.
And More Than Ready filly Spring Heat holds a nomination for the NZ Oaks Gr.1 following an authoritative display in the Bonecrusher Stakes Gr.3 in December 9.
Westbury Stud general-manager Russell Warwick is keen on their All Too Hard fillies from Saffron Hill (Lot 537) and Sweepstaking (Lot 626) at the Karaka Sale starting on January 28. “They’re both good individuals. The Saffron Hill filly is tall with lots of scope and will be a nice 3yo. She comes from the St. Klaire family.
“Sweepstaking was Group 2 placed behind More Joyous at Randwick and her filly has thrown a lot to the sire. She has a good walk on her and is an athletic type.
“Westbury Stud has enjoyed a good run with All Too Hard,” Warwick added. “We sold a yearling colt at the Magic Millions National Sale for $140,000 a 2yo colt at the 2017 Ready to Run Sale for $260,000.”
Meanwhile, Demonetization’s trainer Nigel Tiley is assessing two options for his colt at Pukekohe next Friday. “There’s a Rating 75 over 1600m or a 3yo race over 1400m,” he said. “We will have a look at the fields before deciding but, either way, it’s handed us the opportunity to give him an easy week.”
Westbury Stud has catalogued a More Than Ready – Miss la Frenz colt (Lot 390) at Karaka. “We are excited to be presenting a colt by such a highly successful sire,” Warwick continued. “He has physical attributes that will appeal to a lot of people through his presence, size and scope.”
Miss la Frenz (Zabeel) is a daughter of Furious Stakes Gr.3 winner Moonflute (Danehill) while Spring Heat owns an extension of that successful cross. She is from a mare by Danehill’s most successful sire-son Redoute’s Choice.
Spring Heat won the Bonecrusher Stakes-Gr.3 in a performance that impressed Regan Bayless. “I had to bide my time and she’s still very green,” the visiting Australian hoop said. “But when I gave her one around the backside, she really knuckled down.”
The Lance O’Sullivan-Andrew Scott trained filly had zero luck when fourth in the Sir Tristram Classsic Gr.2 on Boxing Day before flying home for a never nearer fifth in the Levin Classic Gr.1 last Saturday.
Besides his Westbury colt, More Than Ready has a half-brother to Concorde Hcp Gr.2 winner Ego (Lot 84) from Haunui Farm and a colt from Singapore winner Raziyya Of Sydney (Redoute’s Choice) that will be offered as Lot 510 by Trelawney Stud.
The only More Than Ready filly at Karaka (Lot 165) is from Pencarrow Stud’s Travis Stakes Gr.2 winner Dolmabache (Redoute’s Choice). She is a descendant of the Vela family’s famed blue-hen Richebourg (Vice Regal) and her Group 1 winning relatives include Ethereal, Grand Echezeaux, Darci Brahma and Burgundy.
