More Than Ready filly Nemoralia is back on track for the USA Breeders’ Cup after outclassing her rivals in the G3 City Of York Stakes (1400m) on Friday.
She produced a taking turn of foot to hit the front before running away for a one length victory at York’s Ebor meeting. “She was really impressive today and is a firm ground filly,” jockey Jamie Spencer said. “She’s just been unfortunate with the weather this year.”
Trainer Jeremy Noseda dropped Nemoralia back in grade following a pair of solid runs in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly. “She’s been in good form and was a Group 1 filly coming back into Group 3 company,” he said. “I’m delighted to see her do it. She had a hard race in the Coronation Stakes and ran a bit flat in France.”
Nemoralia (3f More Than Ready – Alina by Came Home) has some unfinished business at the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita in November. After authoritative wins in Kempton Park and Doncaster nurseries last year, she travelled to Keeneland only to have no luck in running when third in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
“She should have won,” Noseda claimed. “Nothing went right. It poured down with rain, there was no pace in the race and she got too far back.
“The Park Stakes at Doncaster will be next and then we will head to America. She will run in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Keeneland on October 14 and we’ve got a choice of races at the Breeders’ Cup meeting.”
Nemoralia was purchased for $170,000 at last year’s Ocala 2YO Sale by owners Terry Allan, James Lovat and Charles Pigram. Her dam Alina was successful twice at Listed level in Louisiana and was also placed in the G2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
The English result follows More Than Ready’s regally-bred maiden winners Spirit And Fire (3c ex Amelia’s Dream) and Clockwork Orange (3f ex Private Steer) in Australia this week. The Vinery champion stands for a $66,000 (inc GST) service fee this year.
