Snowden Racing is hoping for a change of fortune when More Than Ready filly Falkenberg runs in the postponed G1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday.
Falkenberg finished fourth in the LR Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) and then got bailed up in the barriers before going down three lengths in the G2 Doomben Roses (2000m). “She hasn’t had much luck,” Paul Snowden said. “She got a leg up in the gates last time and it was a big effort to come from second-last. To finish off as good as she did was a credit to herself.”
The TAB has installed Falkenberg a $7 equal-favourite for the Queensland Oaks with Gold Coast Bracelet winner Imposing Lass.
More Than Ready sired another two promising winners – Cobbmore and Codebreak – at Pakenham on Sunday.
Cobbmore came from last on the corner to land a $14 – $8 gamble on debut. “He’s a big gelding with plenty of scope and has always shown ability at home,” trainer Tony McEvoy said. “Once in the clear, he extended and ran right through the line.
“We’ve still got to work on his barrier manners but he will mature into a Saturday horse and will get up to 2000 metres.”
Luke Currie was also impressed by the win. “I didn’t really want to settle back on the fence but once I pulled him out he really lengthened. There’s no doubt he can measure up to Saturday class, especially when he learns to jump better from the gates.”
Lindsay Park filly Codebreak completed the double with an on-pace victory as a well-supported $3.40 favourite. Her dam Translate was a Flemington G3 Matron Stakes winner and her latest foal is a colt by More Than Ready.
Vinery Stud stands More Than Ready for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee.
