Red Bomber is the 110th stakes winner by Vinery foundation sire Red Ransom (USA) following his Group 3 victory in the Shaftsbury Avenue Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
The five year-old gelding had been struggling since completing a Caulfield treble in May 2015 and a recent transfer from Melbourne to Euroa was the catalyst for his return to form on Saturday.
He did best in a blanket finish with less than a length between the first five home. “A change of stables can sometimes perk a horse up,” Lindsay Park’s Tom Dabernig said. “He’s responded to being trained out of a paddock and we also removed the blinkers.”
Red Bomber (5g Red Ransom – Hanover Fist by Flying Spur) was previously trained by Mick Price and kick-started last year’s hat-trick with a victory over Group 1 star Trust In A Gust in the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m).
“He arrived in wonderful order so we can’t take too much credit,” Dabernig added. “He’s clearly a horse with a lot of ability.”
A Devon Park homebred, Red Bomber is raced by Betty Hoare and will be set for the G3 Victoria Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield on March 26. His dam has also foaled Sandown winner Ready To Fight by More Than Ready and she has a 2yo colt (Ready To Rumble) and a yearling colt by the Vinery champion.
Red Ransom (Roberto) died at Vinery aged 22 in November 2009. A worldwide success at stud, he sired Australian Group 1 winning colts All American, Charge Forward, Duporth, Red Dazzler and Vinery resident Onemorenomore plus champion mare Typhoon Tracy who was Australian Horse of the Year in 2010.
