Myboycharlie filly Camprock has won the first classic trial of the year in France with a determined victory in the Listed Prix Rose de Mai (2000m) at Saint-Cloud.
Saturday’s opening flat meeting of the season was conducted on a testing heavy track but she was still able to accelerate to a half-length victory over Besotted (Dutch Art). Short-priced favourite Claire De Lune (Galileo) was a further three lengths away in third place.
Camprock is the 9th stakes winner by Vinery sire Myboycharlie and trainer Pia Brandt has designs on a Group 1 campaign this summer citing the Prix Saint-Alary at Deauville on May 16 and the French Oaks at Chantilly on June 19.
“I’m delighted as she lacks experience and wants better ground,” Brandt commented. “We will see whether she needs another run before the Prix Saint-Alary. She’s a serious filly and it bodes well for the future.”
Camprock (3f Myboycharlie – Camporese by Sadler’s Wells) had won an all-weather maiden on debut at Chantilly in January and jockey Maxime Guyon was also impressed with the first-up victory. “I wanted to wait today but there wasn’t much pace. She is less experienced than the others but did it beautifully. It will be interesting to see that acceleration on top of the ground.”
The winner is raced by Anna & Etienne Drion, Gerard Augustin-Normand and Anne Seagroatt after being knocked down for 30,000 euros at the 2014 Arqana October yearling sale. Her dam Camporese finished fourth in the 1996 English Oaks prior to claiming the G3 Prix Corrida by five lengths. She is also the dam of USA stakes winner Alice Belle (Street Cry) and it’s the family of Juddmonte Farm’s Group 1 matriarch Hasili.
Myboycharlie can open his Group 1 account for 2016 next Saturday with Jameka (G1 Rosehill Guineas) or on Saturday week with Euro Charline (G1 Dubai Turf).
