Former Vinery shuttler Congrats completed a quick-fire hat-trick of black-type wins when Flutterby and Haveyougoneaway saluted on Sunday.
Flying Congrats gelding Sacred Ovation had claimed the first-leg with a record-breaking victory in the Seal Beach Stakes (1200m) at Los Alamitos on Friday.
Flutterby is in the frame for the Breeders’ Cup after another comfortable victory in the LR Added Elegance Stakes (1400m) at Gulfstream Park. She stuttered at the start before circling the field and then lengthening to defeat Kiss to Remember (Big Brown) who was coming off a last-start second in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga.
“Wow! I’ve run out of superlatives. Maybe we ought to go to the Breeders’ Cup,” veteran owner-trainer Jerry Bozzo said. “Until now, I thought she just was a little too nervous to travel but I’ve kind of changed my thinking. She’s eating well, she’s happy and she trains forwardly every day.”
Flutterby (4f Congrats – Zoobie by First and Only) has won three stakes in her last four starts in Florida and wasn’t disgraced when runner-up in the G2 Princess Rooney at Gulfstream in July. Her bank balance now tips $325,000.
“She ran huge,” jockey Luca Panici said. “After two jumps no one was going with her so I just went to the lead. I hope Jerry thinks about going to the Breeders’ Cup.”
The $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint will be run at Keeneland on October 30.
Congrats filly Haveyougoneaway opened her stakes account with a four-length victory in the Flashy Lady Stakes (1200m) at Remington Park on Sunday.
Haveyougoneaway (4f Congrats – One Wise Cowgirl by Wiseman’s Ferry) lived up to her even-money quote when rallying into the straight and then drawing off to score by panels. She has built up a consistent record in Oklahoma having finished third in the 2014 Remington Park Oaks.
Bred in New York, she cost $105,000 as a yearling at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale but must have experienced a serious setback before changing hands again as a rising 3yo at the 2013 Keeneland November Sale.
Offered as an unraced breeding or racing prospect, Haveyougoneaway was knocked down to Champion Racing for $1,200 and has repaid them with 6 wins in 18 starts for earnings over $250,000.
