TESTA Rossa’s bumper Scone Cup carnival could easily have been partly responsible for helping one of his offspring top Day Two of the Great Southern Weanling Sale in Melbourne during the week.
The colt was sold for $57,500 to John Hymet who is keenly aware of what Testa Rossa can deliver having been a part-owner of the Group 1 winning mare Rostova (won $756,475).
Sold on account of Merivale Farm at Euroa, the colt is out of USA import Riverina (by Irish River) who is a half-sister to dual hemisphere Group winner Far Lane.
The colt’s 3rd dam, My Nord, is something of a blue hen in world breeding having left triple Group 1 winners Annoconnor and the 1986 Melbourne Cup hero At Talaq.
The Great Southern Sale came only days after Testa Rossa’s superlative Scone carnival success where he sired the $200,000 Scone Cup winner Speediness.
Testa Rossa’s other winners on the program were Bart Cummings’ 3YO filly Rosalie and son Anthony’s Fontelina who will next appear in the $1m Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 1.
