MYBOYCHARLIE filly Peggy Jean takes the first step on an ambitious spring campaign when she resumes in the Group 2 ATC Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
A win in tomorrow’s feature will see Peggy Jean’s earnings eclipse the $1m mark portraying her as a fabulous investment for Triple Crown Syndications who out-laid just $46,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
“The owners are having an absolute ball and to be racking up the prizemoney as quickly as she has is a dream come true for everyone,” Triple Crown co-founder Chris Ward said.
Peggy Jean’s mammoth earnings have come within just a half dozen starts and can be principally traced to her Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) and $250,000 Inglis Nursery wins as a two-year-old.
“We knew she Peggy Jean was a precocious type but we always felt that she was going to improve as a 3YO once she matured a bit more so the proof in going to be in the pudding over the next few runs,” says Ward.
Peggy Jean trialled in sterling fashion at Randwick on August 23 and will have conditions made to order on the soft track this weekend.
She won the Sires’ on a heavy 9 and was an unlucky 0.3-lens second to Bring Me The Maid in the Magic Night at Rosehill on a slow track.
“It was an enormous run,” Ward said. “Her and Bring Me The Maid stormed home from the back of the field and obviously it’s a good form reference too with Bring Me The Maid’s recent win.”
Peggy Jean is not the only major winner by Vinery’s Danehill grandson, Myboycharlie.
Their red and white colours are also worn by Peggy Jean’s stablemate Charlie Boy who happened to be his sire’s first runner/winner.
On top of that, Charlie Boy was a dominant winner of the Group 2 VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington this time 12 months ago.
Charlie Boy has been trialling in outstanding order ahead of his scheduled return in the Group 3 VRC Bobbie Lewis (1200m) at Flemington on September 13.
