TALENTED Onemorenomore filly Purcentage battled through the sticky track when picking up some coveted black-type at only her second race start in New Zealand at the weekend.
The Australian-bred 2YO started favourite in the Listed Ford Ryder Stakes (1200m) at Otaki on the strength of her power-packed debut 3.5-lens win at Avondale four weeks prior.
Purcentage lost no admirers finishing third in a race whose honour rolls boasts the likes of Venadercross, Red Tempo, Beechcraft, and Our Egyptian Raine.
Craig Grylls says the sticky Otaki track brought the favourite, Purcentage, undone in the Ryder Stakes.
“It’s a long time since I’ve ridden on a track as gluey as that one, she just couldn’t hit out properly in the footing,” Grylls told the New Zealand Herald.
“I thought it was still a very good effort to run third because she was starting to struggle on the home turn. That run did nothing to alter the big opinion I have of her.”
Purcentage is a superbly bred filly being by Red Ransom’s Group 1 2YO Onemorenomore out of 2002 AJC Gimcrack Stakes winner Spurcent.
She was originally bought by respected NZ based bloodstock agent Michael Wallace for $105,000 out of Vinery’s 2012 Magic Millions National Weanling sale draft.
Purcentage was re offered a little over six months later at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka where she was knocked down to Richardson Racing for a quarter of a million dollars.
Her efforts coincide with a booming finish to Onemorenomore’s opening season as a sire which included 3 winners in 3 days for the Vinery resident last week.
