Cebile then Bomber Brown to begin what is shaping up as a ground-breaking season for his sire Big Brown.

Trainer David Payne has nominated Bomber Brown for a barrier trial over 1030m on Monday morning.  It will be the gelding’s first run back since winning at Rosehill in May.  “He’s a tough type and has improved again,” Payne said.  “I don’t think heading for the Classics is aiming too high.”

Bomber Brown will be set for the G1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick and, all going well, the G1 Victorian Derby at Flemington.  “We will wait until after the trial before deciding where to kick off,” Payne added.  “I might give a couple of hit-outs before going to the races.

“His father won a Kentucky Derby and we know he’s tough enough to get the trip in the Derby.”

Payne’s prospect leads the first crop of Big Browns bred at Vinery Stud – there have been 8 individual winners to date and 4 of them are out of Danehill line mares.  So is his Adelaide filly Wroclaw who was stakes placed in both the Dequetteville and the Queen Adelaide Stakes in April.

Meanwhile this Saturday, promising Big Brown 2YO filly Cebile is certain to garner plenty of admirers when she tackles the BRC Bmag Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm.
The Michael Nolen trained youngster was having only her second race start when she ran her rivals off their legs to post an emphatic 2.8-lens win over 1300m at Toowoomba last start.
The Gerry Harvey bred filly should have no trouble running the mile being by a Kentucky Derby winner out of a mare by another namely the 2000 winner Fusaichi Pegasus while her second dam is by classic sire immortal, Sadler’s Wells.

Cebile will line up against another Australian bred first crop Big Brown in Brisbane this weekend with the locally trained Bally Bull on target for a bold showing.
The gelding turned in his best run so far at his most recent appearance when he finished runner-up in a 1350m Ipswich Maiden when inconvenienced at the 400m.

It has been a huge few days for Vinery’s ‘Global Sire’ Big Brown who sired a Group 3 winner in Brazil last weekend at the same time as US$1.3m sale topper Darwin added another feature win to his burgeoning C.V.
Then on Tuesday in South Africa, the Magic Millions graduate Masnoon won at Vaal following on from his debut second in the Rainbow Nation earlier in the month.

The Big Browns are breaking out around the racing world recently.

 

NZ trainer Alan Tait has his exciting Big Brown juvenile Southern Icon ready to step up to Listed company in the Ryder Stakes at Otaki on Saturday, July 26.

Southern Icon won on debut at Ruakaka in May and there were lots of excuses after a last-start second in the Red Giant 2YO Challenge.

The Matamata horseman is already looking ahead to the G2 Hawkes Bay Guineas and a possible trip across the Tasman.  “I’m very happy with him,” Tait said.  “If he’s as good as I think he is, then he will go to Australia.”

Big Brown got him from Cataclopse, a half-sister to Zabeel’s Group 1 winner stayer Greene Street.
