Vinery sire Myboycharlie has gone to another level with Group 1 winning filly Peggy Jean and he has another promising youngster on the west coast with tough 2yo Myboypaul.
Myboypaul (2g Myboycharlie – Beltija by Falvelon) had won a Pinjarra maiden on Anzac Day and came to town for a tenacious victory in the Skyy Vodka 2YO Hcp (1200m) at Belmont on Wednesday.
“He’s pretty full of himself and has got more front than Myers,” trainer Damian Winn said. “He’s a little bulldog and is always pushing the boys around at home.
“He thinks he’s pretty tough but he backs it up at the races. He beat some handy ones today and we will step up again for a Saturday race next month.”
Myboypaul will send Myboycharlie through $1 million on the Australian 2YO premiership if he completes at hat-trick in the $60,000 Westspeed Nursery (1400m) on June 7.
Winn did have Myboypaul pencilled in for a start last week but held off when the gelding didn’t clean out his feed bin. “His blood was perfect but I had a feeling he wasn’t quite right. A few days later he was bossing everyone around again so I knew we were back in business.”
Myboypaul is from Adelaide stakes placed mare Beltija and was a $40,000 buy at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. He is part of an expanding team for Winn who grew up on a farm at Oakbank in the Adelaide hills.
After stints with Peter and David Hayes at Lindsay Park, Winn worked on the Gold Coast and Mornington before making his way to Perth.
Myboycharlie (Danetime) ‘reverse’ shuttles to Haras du Mezeray from Vinery for a $13,200 (inc gst) fee. His first European crop have been headed by this year’s LR Prix Omnium winner Salai and G2 Nell Gwynn Stakes runner-up Euro Charline.
