TESTA Rossa is in line to clean sweep both of the Nation’s feature races tomorrow with favoured runners Ranger and Ortensia in action at the rich Perth Carnival.
Local gelding Ranger is aiming for his fourth straight win this campaign when he tackles the $1 million WATC Railway Stakes (1600m) against a quality field of milers.
The Grant Williams trained 5YO came from well back to score the Group 2 WATC Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot carrying 59kg at weight-for-age.
Ranger drops down to 56kg for his Railway assignment.
”We’ve got him in pretty good nick and he’s come through his last run very well,” trainer Grant Williams told Sportsman.
”I can’t see at this stage that there will be any excuses.”
Meanwhile, Eastern States mare Ortensia looks poised to win her second Winterbottom Stakes this Saturday after a spectacular win in the Mumm Stakes at Flemington for new trainer Paul Messara.
The six-year-old mare has already won over $1.2 million highlighted by victories in the QTC Cup as well as placings in the QTC Stradbroke Handicap, VRC Patinack Classic and MRC CF Orr S – all of them Group 1 races,
”Ortensia is a six-year-old mare and it’s all about keeping them happy,” Messara says,”she’s got the ability you just have to have a bit of faith in the animal.”
