REGALLY Ready’s dominant win in the Grade 2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint run at Churchill Downs this morning was cause for a double celebration for Vinery Stud.

Firstly, the Todd Pletcher trained gelding is a son of their global sire More Than Ready who provided the winners of both BC Juvenile divisional winners in 2010 namely Pluck and More Than Real (both from the Pletcher stable).

As well as that, Regally Ready is raced by Vinery Stables and carries their famous green and white colours with distinction.

Regally Ready arrived for his Breeders’ Cup Sprint challenge having won the Grade 1 Nearctic Stakes at Woodbine in Canada at his last start but the writing had been on the wall for some time.

After Regally Ready won a Churchill Downs turf allowance last fall by nearly eight lengths, Scott Blasi, the assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen, was convinced of one thing. “This one’s the real deal,”.

On Saturday, with Blasi cheering before the television cameras, Regally Ready proved all that and more by dominating the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill, defeating 13 others as the 2-1 favorite. Country Day, a 33-1 shot, was second, 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner and another three-quarters of a length before Perfect Officer.

Regally Ready returned $6.60 to win after finishing the five-furlong distance in 56.48 seconds over a good turf.

Rapport led to the turn, with Regally Ready racing easily along his inside flank. After turning for home, Regally Ready opened up, with the group of Great Attack, Country Day, Perfect Officer, and Caracortado picking up a futile chase.

“My job today was so easy it wasn’t even funny,” jockey Corey Nakatani said. Regally Ready “broke awesome, basically outbroke the field. Once I got past the horse on my right, it was basically over after that.”

More Than Ready’s latest Group One winning star has now recorded ninth victory inside 17 starts.

”The Breeders’ Cup is tantamount to the Olympic Games for racehorses so it’s fantastic that More Than Ready can have such a big impact on the races,” said Vinery Stud’s Conor Phelan, “This is his third BC win in the last two years.”

”Regally Ready is at his best on the turf and there probably isn’t a better turf sire in the USA than More Than Ready.”

More Than Ready took his tally of individual stakeswinners to 92 on Thursday when the Mick Price trained Proliferate kept his unbeaten record intact when taking out the Listed VRC Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m) at Flemington.
