Myboycharlie joined the elite team at Vinery when his filly Peggy Jean won the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Peggy Jean (2f Myboycharlie – Lady Of Love by Lago Delight) banked $670,000 for her connections with a half-length victory over Scratch Me Lucky (Snitzel) and Cornrow (Duporth). “We bypassed the Golden Slipper and I have to thank the owners for being so understanding,” trainer Gerald Ryan said. “I always said she would be more suited in the Sires’ Produce and Champagne Stakes.”
Triple Crown Syndications bought Peggy Jean for $46,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Sale. She won the $250,000 Inglis Classic at Randwick in January and was a good thing beaten when runner-up to Bring Me The Maid in the G2 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
“This is a great thrill,” Ryan added. “When you sit back and set a horse for a race and it happens it gives you great satisfaction.”
Peggy Jean will head to the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in a fortnight and victory will give Vinery sires a clean-sweep of the Sydney 2YO Triple Crown.
Mossman won the first leg with Mossfun in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes last Saturday.
Vinery champion More Than Ready also chimed in with his latest Group 1 winner last Saturday when Room Service claimed the Ashland Stakes G.1 at Keeneland.
Myboycharlie’s French based colt Salai is also gunning for a Group 1 in the French 2000 Guineas next month. He was a very impressive first-up winner at Saint-Cloud last month
Vinery sires dominate the upper reaches of the Australian 2YO sires’ premiership this season. Mossman tops the table with earnings of $2.77 million, Testa Rossa is third ($1.96 million) and Myboycharlie has moved into sixth spot ($930,000).
