PROGRESSIVE gelding Testa My Patience will be given the chance to emulate his sire Testa Rossa’s unforgettable Emirates Stakes win after taking out last Saturday’s Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m).
The Mick Price trained galloper made light work of a quality field in the time-honoured feature surging away to win by 1.5-lens.
It was his seventh win in 14 starts, his first at stakes level and impressive enough to convince Price that he has earned a crack at the Emirates Stakes on the final day of the Flemington carnival.
”It’s the logical progression for the horse,” Price said.
”No doubt there will be good milers coming from everywhere for the race but I think he is going to be very well suited in the Emirates and he’s till going to be well weighted.”
Price readily recalled Testa Rossa’s heroic win in the 2000 Emirates Stakes (1600m)) where the horse drew 16 of 16, carried top weight of 59kgs, was last on the turn but still managed to sweep past his rivals to win going away by 1.5-lens.
”My horse is no Testa Rossa, I don’t think he’ll win six Group 1’s but he is the breed, they are good tempered, they are tough and they train on.
”Testa My Patience is a home bred and the owners are having a lot of fun with him going through his grades ad earning good prizemoney. He’s been a great horse to race,” Price said.
Meanwhile, former Price trained mare Dubleanny is scheduled for a visit to Testa Rossa this season at Vinery after she retired as a triple stakeswinner of over $600,000.
”Dubleanny is a good type,” Price told us,”I think she is going to be a fantastic broodmare.
”Temperament, type, style of a horse, her tun of foot was good and I don’t think we really saw the best of her.
”I would love to have her as a fully mature five-year-old but I am happy to see her as a mother.”
STILL On Testa Rossa, trainer Greg Eurell is aiming to add this weekend’s L.K.S Mackinnon Stakes to his Cox Plate win when Red Colossus arrives at Flemington.
Red Colossus ran a tremendous race in last year’s version finishing fifth behind champion galloper So You Think.
Fast forward to Oaks day and glamour mare Ortensia resumes for new trainer Paul Messara in the Mumm Stakes over 1200m after a scintillating barrier trial in Sydney earlier this month.
