A PAIR of outstanding barrier trials has Big Brown filly Muscovado poised to strike in tomorrow’s Group 3 ATC Widden Stakes (1100m) in Sydney as she makes her much anticipated debut.
The Denise Martin/Gai Waterhouse filly announced herself with a win over her stablemate and Widden rival Twirl in a 728m heat win at Randwick on Jan 3.
Muscovado next appeared in a Jan 31 heat over 1050m finishing a close second to another stablemate in Fighting Sun who is an $11 chance to win the Golden Slipper and will also be in action at Rosehill tomorrow when he tackles the Group 3 ATC Canonbury Stakes (1100m).
Muscovado is from Big Brown’s first Australian crop and is out of Waterhouse’s former triple Group 2 winning Zeditave mare On Type.
On Type has thrown three winners so far led by Sugar Babe who won the Group 3 MRC H.D.F. McNeil Stakes and Debutante Stakes both at Caulfield.
Muscovado was bought by Star Thoroughbreds for $120,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is one of several Big Brown’s housed at Tulloch Lodge.
