MYBOYCHARLIE’S dream start to his stud career has come at the perfect time with the attention now turning to the 2013 sales series which begins as always on the Gold Coast.
That’s where highly successful racehorse syndicators Michael and Chris Ward picked up Golden Slipper aspirant Charlie Boy who turned heads with an outstanding debut win at Rosehill last Saturday.
Trading as Triple Crown Syndications, the Ward’s outlaid $80,000 on the Myboycharlie/Maritime colt.
Charlie Boy was one 10 yearling offered at the Magic Millions Sale, all of whom changed hands and for an average price $121,000 or approximately eight-and-a-half times his introductory service fee.
“Myboycharlie was a first season sire that we took a particular interest in and is one that we thought we would work out here in Australia,” Triple Crown’s co-director Michael Ward said.
“Obviously he is a grandson of Danehill and there are some successful Australian runners in his family.
“Charlie Boy was an extremely athletic type. He always moved beautifully and just ticked all the boxes for us.”
And while Charlie’s Boy sterling debut has a Magic Million ring about it, he will bypass the opportunity to bank the lion’s share of $2.5 million to be aimed at the Golden Slipper Stakes next April.
“I think he will really go on with it in the autumn because he is well above average. And there is a fair bit of improvement in the horse so it augurs well for the new year,” Ward added.
