STAKESWINNING Dubleo mare Koonoomoo will be taking on the cream of Australia’s weight-for-age gallopers led by Vinery owned colt All Too Hard when she steps out in the Group 1 $500,000 MRC Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The daughter of Dubleo is coming off a sparkling 0.3-lens third in the Group 3 MRC Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at her most recent outing when run down late by Testa Rossa mare There’s Only One on February 9 at the same venue.
Two starts prior, the Rod Grantley trained mare was able to record her first stakes win when claiming the Group 3 VRC Herald Sun Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
Saturday’s race is the next step along the way to a possible overseas campaign for nominal favourite All Too Hard who came with a rush to win the Group 1 MRC C.F Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up after finishing second in the Cox Plate immediately after his Caulfield Guineas triumph ahead of Triple Crown hero Pierro.
Koonoomoo has raced 25 times for 5 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds with earnings of close to $350,000.
