BREEDERS who sent their mares to Myboycharlie in his first season in the UK are experiencing some massive returns on their investments at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at Newmarket.
On Day One of the sale, a colt by the former Champion 2YO (France) sold for 135,000 guineas or approxiamtely $222,750.
Myboycharlie, whose first crop were conceived at the National Stud for a fee of ,5,500, has a Book 2 average of just over 100,000gns for four sold following the sale of Manister House Stud’s colt out of Time Will Show (Fr) to Coolmore for 160,000gns (~AUD$260,000).
This was a great mark-up on his foal price of 43,000gns.
The Barry family’s Manister House Stud picked up this colt from the first crop of French juvenile champion Myboycharlie (Ire) for 43,000gns out of last year’s Tattersalls December Foal sale.
The yearling was in demand Wednesday, with M V Magnier seeing off challenges from Matt Coleman, Charlie Gordon-Watson, Amanda Skiffington, Ed Sackville and Stephen Hillen.
“He’s been a stunning horse all year,” commented Luke Barry. “He looks like a racehorse and was a very nice foal, whom we hoped would go the right way. We’ve been very lucky.”
It has been a similar story here in Australia with Myboycharlie’s first foals being the focus of heavy demand with buyers.
He ‘sold out’ at the Magic Millions Sale on the Gold Coast with all 10 of his yearlings finding homes at an average of around $120,000 or eight and a half times his introductory service fee.
Trainers who have a Myboycharlie to work with include heavyweights Gai Waterhouse, Peter Moody, David Payne, Gerald Ryan, John Sadler, David Hayes, Michael Kent, Matthew Smith, Anthony Freedman and Cliff Brown (Singapore).
Myboycharlie has already sired 2yo trial winners in Sydney and in New Zealand.
