The first day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book Two got underway in Newmarket yesterday and the early session topper was Lot 710, a colt by Myboycharlie (Danetime).
The colt is a half brother to the Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed, 6f) winner Bogart (Bahamian Bounty) and Blaine (Avonbridge), winner of Gimcrack Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at York in 24 August this year.
The yearling colt was sold to trainer Richard Fahey though Highfield Farm LLP for 135,000gns (approximately $222,750) when offered by Broughton Bloodstock.
Ther colt was bought for David Armstrong, the owner of G1 July Cup winner Mayson (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), who was retired at the weekend to Cheveley Park Stud.
“This is a very nice horse and we bid on the half-brother [Blaine] at the breeze-up sales. You are taking a chance on a first-season sire, but we’ve seen quite a few of his yearlings and they look racy.” Fahey’s assistant Robin O’Ryan told ANZ Bloodstock News.
Myboycharlie shuttles to Vinery Stud, where he stands this season for a fee of $8,800 inc GST.
This follows on from Day One of the prestigious Book One at the Tattersalls Sale when a filly by Myboycharlie sold for 70,000gns (approx $115,000).
Born and bred in the UK, the bay coloured filly is the first foal of Park Melody, a daughter of Glencadam Gold’s sire Refuse To Bend.
Myboycharlie has covered 80 mares in his first Northern Hemisphere season at a modest fee of 5000 Pounds. ‘Charlie finished his first season with 98% of his mares in foal and these breeder’s are now reaping the rewards.
Myboycharlie’s oldest Australian progeny turned two on August 1 and have already made their presence felt winning a number of trials in Australia and in New Zealand.
Trainers with a Myboycharlie in their stables include Gai Waterhouse, Peter Moody, Anthony Freedman, Gerald Ryan, David Hayes, Bjorn Baker, Michael Kent, Troy Corstens and Cliff Brown (Singapore).
