MUCH loved Queensland galloper Buffering is set to send his earnings past the $2m mark when he contests a hot field in the Group 2 MRC Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield this weekend.
The 5YO son of Mossman has so far won $1,963,900 for his owners who paid just $22,000 for the horse back in 2009.
Buffering has been a model of consistency throughout and a fabulous advertisement for his trainer Robert Heathcote with 10 wins from 27 starts together with 11 placings.
Buffering has won three Group 2 races ahead of the Schillaci as well as seven Group 1 placings, most of them behind Black Caviar and/or Hay List.
One of Buffering’s main rivals tomorrow is the South Australian visitor Stirling Grove who was part of the same Mossman crop as Heathcote’s crack sprinter.
Stirling Grove finished third in last year’s Schillaci behind none other than Black Caviar and the flying filly Karuta Queen.
“The horse is going well obviously this is a good quality race,” trainer Richard Jolly said.
“I certainly think he’ll acquit himself well. He’s drawn well, he should get a good run, whether he’s good enough to win it first-up remains to be seen but I am sure he’ll be competitive.
“I don’t think he’s lost anything since this race last year and he’s works been good.”
