PUNTERS who have invested on Myboycharlie to be the leading first season at in 2012/13 would have been delighted to see the Vinery resident sire an impressive trial winner at Warwick Farm last Friday morning.

Trained locally by ex-pat Kiwi Bjorn Baker, Charlie Chopsticks finished over the top of his rivals to take out the 800m heat.

It was an obviously bright start to the colt’s career more so given that Baker’s short-hand forecast is `longer and later’.

“He is out a well credentialed mare who was placed in the Oaks so from a future point of view it’s very promising because he is a lovely good type of horse and he’s great attitude and is very tough,” Baker said

“I expect him to keep getting better and he’s the sort of horse that I’d like to think would be competitive in two-year-old races over a bit of ground next year and hopefully contest the Spring Champion Stakes next this time year.”

Baker wasn’t able to say whether or not Charlie Chopsticks would contest the time honoured Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 6.

“We’ll see how he comes through but we’re in no rush because he’s definitely going to improve with a bit more time and taking into his account, the further he goes I suspect the better he’ll get.”

Charlie Chopsticks has a lovely blend of speed and stamina being by a former Champion 2YO Colt out of Sadler’s Wells grand-daughter Queen of Queen’s who won the SAJC Oaks and was placed third in the Schweppes Oaks and fourth in the AJC Oaks.

Myboycharlie has been backed in from $21 into $11 with Sportingbet to be crowned Australia’s Leading Freshman Sire at the end of the current season.

Six Myboychalrie two-year-olds are scheduled to go under the hammer at the National Horses In Training Sale at the Gold Coast on October 31 and November 1.

Among them is Lot 213 who posted a super slick time of 10.99s for his 200m Breeze Up at the Gold Coast racecourse on Monday.

Named Cheeky Boy Charlie, the brown colt is only second foal of Mandarins Daughter, a half-sister to stakeswinning sprinter/miler, Rally.
