Vinery sire Testa Rossa landed a Listed double today with Twilight Royale and Jolie Blonde at Mornington following on from recent Stakes successon Saturday with There’s Only One.

Twilight Royale (2f Testa Rossa – Royal Season by Royal Academy) has cashed in on the lucrative Inglis Bonus Scheme this season. She won the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Warwick Farm in December and travelled south for another big pay-day in the $250,000 Inglis Premier (1200m) on the Mornington Cup support card.

The Inglis Premier has been upgraded to Restricted Listed status and Twilight Royale earned her first black-type ahead of the Mick Price stablemates Resistant (Choisir) and Lannister (Reaan).

Trainer Bjorn Baker purchased her for $45,000 from Kitchwin Hills at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. The sales related victories have boosted her bank balance to $348,000.

“I bought Twilight Royale on speck so I’m very grateful to the owners for coming in and supporting me,” Baker said. “The fast pace up front suited her down to the ground. We will wait to see how she pulls up before deciding whether to stay here for another run or go home.”

Twilight Royale is a half-sister to Hong Kong winners Chater d’Cat (Tale of the Cat) and Quantum Power (Fusaichi Pegasus). Their dam Royal Season has a colt on the ground by Duporth and was bred back to Smart Missile.

Testa Rossa mare Jolie Blonde landed a long-priced gamble in the LR Hareeba Stakes (1200m). A Vinery homebred for Gerry Harvey, she was the lowest ranked runner engaged but connections were confident going into the feature sprint.

Jolie Blonde (4m Testa Rossa – Danoiserie by Danehill) peeled off the leaders at the top of the straight to score a convincing victory over Launay (Lonhro) and Sheila’s Star (Snitzel). “Thanks to Gerry for keeping faith in me,” trainer Mark Riley said while celebrating a home-town victory. “They went hard and that helped set it up for our mare.”

Jolie Blonde’s dam Danoiserie is a three-quarter sister to Sydney stayer Bid Spotter who also won a G3 Hobart Cup. Second dam Isolda (Sir Tristram) was a G1 winner of the AJC Champagne Stakes.

Danoiserie has a 2yo and yearling fillies by More Than Ready and she foaled a colt by the Vinery champion in November.

Testa Rossa’s stakes double at Mornington came hot on the heels of a Group 3 in the Bellmaine Stakes at Caulfield courtesy of his Peter Moody trained mare There’s Only One.

There are 10 Testa Rossa yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale at Oaklands Junction starting on March 3.
