SPEEDY Excites gelding Red Excitement is likely to make a return visit to Sydney after scoring a comprehensive first up win in last Friday’s Siren Bar & Grill Handicap (1080m) at Canberra.
The Neville Layt-trained 3YO drew barrier 10 in the 11 horse field and was duly trapped wide for most of the race.
Despite his torrid run – and being first-up for six months – Red Excitement sprinted away from his rivals to post an easy 3.3-lens win in smart time.
Last Friday’s triumph was the second win for Red Excitement who almost managed to finish on the heels on the placegetters in the Breeders’ Plate behind Pierro and the $255,000 Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley.
Red Excitement is one of 20 winners overall sired by Excites – 18 of those from his first crop delivered in 2008.
Others include the stakeswinning Flag Officer (earned $230,950) as well as Queensland filly Amber’s Crown ($260,450), Sydney metro winner Avadale, Hawkes gelding Greenedge and the Chris Waller trained stayer, Black Jag.
Red Excitement is owned by Glenn and Viive Williams who also raced the 2010 Magic Millions winning filly, Karuta Queen.
Red Excitement is a superbly bred individual – his second dam, Compulsion, is a stakeswinning Danehill daughter of the great Bold Promise, dam of Golden Slipper winner Merlene and the dual Group 1 winning sprinter, Miss Pennynoney.
HOOFNOTE: Red Excitement’s dam, Red Obsession, was bred by Vinery and is a daughter of the Stud’s foundation sire Red Ransom.
