THE FIRST yearling by Big Brown at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling sale was offered and sold for $310,000 on the opening day in Kentucky yesterday.
Lot 196, on account of Runnymede (as agent), is a dark bay or brown colt out of Forty Niner grand-daughter Miss Forest City, herself a half sister to Grade 3 winner Sea Chanter and a direct descendant of the La Troienne line.
”That was a great way to start of the sale for Big Brown,” says Vinery’s Adam White.
”I don’t think there are any great expectations held for the sale, the US market is fairly moderate at the moment, so anything around $300,000 these days is probably half a million five years ago.
”Nonetheless, the important thing with a first season season like Big Brown is that they get the buyers tick of approval on type and that they go to good homes where they have a chance to succeed and that’s already happened at preceding sales at Saratgoa.”
There are a total of 42 Big Brown yearling catalogued at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale which continues through until the 22nd of this month.
Meanwhile in Australia, Big Brown’s first crop foals are on the ground and are pleasing all as the four time Groop 1 winner is stamping his stock here with the same quality he has consistently produced in the States.
