GLAMOUR mare More Joyous scooped the pool at the New South Wales Racehorse Owners Association night of nights held in Sydney last week winning three awards and honoured as the State’s Horse of the Year after a string of dazzling wins during the spring and autumn carnival periods.
The daughter of multiple champion sire More Than Ready was also crowned Queen of the Autumn and was a tearaway winner in the Sprinter/Miler category and caps fo a good season for More Than Ready which saw his first crop son Perfectly Ready claim the NZ First Season Sire’s Championship.
More Joyous, trained by Gai Waterhouse, won 8 races from 10 outings during the 2010/11 season including the Group 1 George Main Stakes and Queen of the Turf Stakes in Sydney as well as memorable victories in the Toorak Handicap and Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.
As a result her earnings reached $2.45 million and took her overall record to 14 wins from 19 starts.
From her winning return in the Tea Rose Stakes as a three-year-old on September 19, 2009 until her Queen of the Turf win on April 2, 2011, More Joyous strung togther an incredible 10 straight stakeswins in Sydney by an average margin of 2-lens.
“More Joyous was virtually unbeatable in Sydney last season, she was at her best at every run and did it so easily everytime,” says Vinery Stud’s Conor Phelan, “and her win in the Toorak in Melbourne was one of the best handicap Gr.1 wins of the year.”
