CANNY Lad daughter Yes She Can Cancan is proving to be one of the most effective broodmares in the land with two high profile stakes winners to her credit, both of them sired by Vinery residents.
The mare raced and owned by prominent Scone figure David Bentata was a handy performer on the track but her stocks have soared considerably in retirement.
Her first ‘claim to fame’ was via Stakes winning Mossman mare Ofcourseican, who, like her dam, was (is) trained at Randwick by Ron Quinton.
Ofcourseican improved her reputation and value to a much higher regard in the wake of her Birthday Card Quality triumph during the Sydney autumn carnival.
Yes She Can Cancan’s latest star is the expat Gimmethegreenlight, who has emerged to be one of South Africa’s most promising horses in several years.
The son of More Than Ready won his first four starts before an extremely unlucky fourth placing in the Group 1 Golden Horseshoe where he blew the start only to fly home late.
Gimmethegreenlight added Group 1 blacktype to his name when finishing third (as 2/1 fav) in last weekend’s prestigious 16-horse Premier’s Champion Stakes (1400m) at Greyville.
“Yes She Can Cancan has elevated herself to a whole new level in a very short of space of time and we’re thrilled that our stallions have played their part,” says Vinery’s Adam White.
“Not only is she a very valuable mare herself, any future foals of Ofcourseican will be studied very closely if David decides to send them to the yearling sales.”
NOTE: Yes She Can Cancan’s first foal, La Gouche (by Danehill Dancer) foaled a Testa Rossa colt on October 6, 2010.
