MOSSMAN gelding Drovetti, formerly trained in Australia by Gerald Ryan, pocketed the lion’s share of a a $125,000 purse when winning last night’s Kranji Stakes (1400m) in Singapore.
Drovetti was masterfully handled by champion jockey Glen Boss who saved ground along the fence reaching the lead at the 200m surging away for an emphatic 2.3lens win.
”He’s a horse that likes a bit of cut in the ground and there was a little bit of give there to suit him,” Boss said.
”I always felt the inside was the place to be and when the field opened up it was just perfect.
”I was always confident of him being hard to beat in the run. About 100m after the start he put his head on his chest and relaxed so well.
”He was very strong to the line and he looks like he’s going to be in for a good campaign.”
Drovetti’s latest win was his seventh inside 33 starts with seven seconds and four thirds since arriving in Singapore from Australia in August of 2008.
”He’s been a good little horse for the stable,” said his local trainer Steven Burridge.
”I told Glen to not leave the fence on him after drawing barrier one and just ride him for luck.
”He trialled really well last Tuesday and I was confident of him running really well.”
Drovetti left Australia having won twice in five starts, once at the Gold Coast and the other in the feature Southern Cross Ten 2-Year-Old Plate (1200m) held at Grafton on Ramornie Handicap day each year.
