CONGRATS filly Turbulent Descent finished a game second in treacherous conditions when seeking to make today’s prestigious Acorn Stakes Gr.1 (8f) her third Grade 1 win.
The first-crop daughter of Vinery Stud sire Congrats started an odds on favourite in trying conditions but didn’t handle the sloppy conditions as well as the winner It’s Tricky and finished second to that runner with a further 13 lengths to third.
Turbulent Descent raced fourth in the inside for the most part of the Belmont feature peeling out three-wide to make her charge at the top of the stretch.
While it looked for a moment that the Mike Puype trained gun would get there, she was unable to reach the leader and eventual winner It’s Tricky in the conditions that were officially rated Muddy (sealed).
Turbulent Descent was among 25 individual winners sired by Congrats in 2010 and largely responsible for him being crowned Leading First Crop Sire in the USA.
The filly is one of two Grade 1 winners from said crop, one of four Grade One performers in Congrats opening season.
