VINERY resident More Than Ready inched closer to joining associate sire Testa Rossa on 100 winners for the season after bookending the Kensington meeting yesterday.
The double increased More Than Ready’s current tally to 93 consolodating his spot on the General Sires’ ranking.
More Than Ready’s first winner on the Randwick-inner was the Pat and Wayne Webster trained Patio (ex Decking) who upset the favourite Frontal in a tight finish to the Free Entry Maiden (1800m).
Constant drizzle and the odd heavy shower forced the track to be downgraded to a slow (7) by the time the final event got under in fading light.
Enter local miss More Than Royal who handled the conditions best to score an emphatic 2.3-lens win, replicating her May 11 victory at the same venue.
”She has only has the 12 starts, won four of them and placed three times,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
”The mare has been beautifully placed by Bob Pearce and is responding well. She makes her own luck out in front, she handles the good and slow and is very honest.”
More Than Royal is a half-sister to Les Bridge’s outstanding mare Jersey Lily and is a maternal grand-daughter of the former flying filly from the west, Paklani.
