OUTSTANDING Dubleo mare Dubleanny enhanced her already astonishing record up the famous Flemington runway with a gutsy display in today’s Listed VRC Straight Six (1200m).
Dubleanny was the first of two winner’s on the weekend for Dubleo but once again it was Dubleo’s first crop star making headlines.
The Mick Price trained chestnut was forced to race closer than what is customary reaching the lead at the 200m but being headed soon after by Perturbo.
Just as she did in Adelaide last start when winning the Listed SAJC Proud Miss Stakes, Dubleanny was equal to the challenge carving out a desperate and brave win in the end earning high praise from regular rider Craig Newitt.
“The race didn’t really pan out the way we wanted it to, but with no speed on she bounced and puts herself there and at the 200m I knew which one I wanted to be on because she’s just so genuine,” he said.
Price announced after the race that Dubleanny would be spelled with an eye to the spring having done more than enough this campaign.
“She’ll probably go out now. I don’t think there is much around for her. This was a nice listed race and she was well weighted.”
“We might have a look at the early spring races. I had one go in a Group One and she ran fifth to Response – but I don’t think she travels that good and that’s why we didn’t take her to Brisbane.”
“She will get 1400 (metres) with the right run in the race. A Group One Handicap for her – you’d like to think so anyhow,” Price summed up.
Dubleanny has won nine of her 16 starts and banked over $500,000 for connections.
Emerging 2yo, Hey Soul Sister was another winner for Dubleo on the weekend at Cessnock. Having placed on debut earlier this year the Dubleo filly finished midfield in the 2yo Inlgis Classic at Scone before cruising to an easy 2.5 Length victory at Cessnock with another 7 Lengths back to third in the 13 horse field.
