TRAINER Greg Eurell’s trade skills were never more evident when the former Oympic equestrian was able to coax a first up Group 3 win from Testa Rossa galloper Red Colossus on the weekend.
The 4YO gelding was having his first start since contesting the Ballarat Cup over 2000m but had won a trial at Cranbourne in the lead-up to his Victoria Stakes 1400m engagement.
“Greg is one of the best horsemen in the business and it’s never easy to get one to win first-up over 1400m especially at Group level,” Vinery Stud’s Adam White said.
“Red Colossus has been a good horse for connections, winning five times and placing in a few Cups on the Victorian circuit.
“He was narrowly beaten in the Gr.1 S.A Derby and also ran fifth in the Mackinnon Stakes behind So You Think – that’s not bad form and there looks to be more to come from this Testa gelding.”
The Victoria Stakes was the thrid Stakes win for Red Colossus which has now won five of seventeen starts for over $330k.
