MOSSMAN gelding Triple Elegance is the horse most likely to prevent champion mare More Joyous adding tomorrow’s $2.2 million Doncaster Mile to her growing tally of majors.
That’s the consensus from punters who have the Chris Waller trained 4YO on the second line of betting at $7 on TAB Sportsbet.
Much of Triple Elegance’s support stems from his outstanding third in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper day, the first time he had competed under weight for age conditions.
The gelding drops from 59.5kgs to 51.5 for tomorrow’s Grand Final and has drawn perfectly in barrier six.
”I would rather have a four-year-old on the limit in than a three-year-old on the limit and we all know how good three-year-olds on the limit go in the Doncaster,” Waller told the Daily Telegraph’s racing editor Ray Thomas.
The horse in finished just ahead of Triple Elegance in the Ryder, Love Conquers All, will also line up in the Doncaster Mile.
While it is the Mossman gelding’s first time at 1600m, his run last start was suggestive that he would have no problem with the extra 100m.
”Love Conquers All has drawn to get some cover or he could just as easily push forward and get into the first half dozen,” says Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
”You need a big race jockey in these sort of races and I don’t think you’d swap Chris Munce for anyone. The track is dead at the moment and they are forecasting showers today and tomorrow which will help his chances considerably.”
